What is improvisation and why is it so important in Salsa?
Dance improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating movement.
Salsa is a general eight-count street dance that relies on improvisation. Once a dancer has learned a variety of salsa moves, the dancer will often combine any and all the moves he or she knows of these styles of dance, as well as add his or her own dance style, or make up new dance moves. This is what this WS will focus.
Some classes focus on teaching a sequence of steps, which is great for muscle memory. Once a dancer understands the basic structure of Salsa, as it is improvisational dance form, Improvisation techniques are taught and improvisation is encouraged as necessary to level up your dancing.
